Islamabad High Court reinstates PubG game

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has accepted the petition filed against the ban on PubG, restoring the PubG game. The court will issue directions to PTA in a detailed judgment.

Justice Amir Farooq has quashed the PTA’s decision to suspend the PubG game on July 1. The Islamabad High Court had reserved judgment on July 14. PTA has issued orders to restore the game. The company that runs the game in Pakistan and the players of the game had approached the High Court. His position was that he had won the national championship and wanted to participate in international competitions, so the ban should be lifted.

The company told the court that the PTA had imposed the ban without hearing them. The court had sought a detailed reply from the PTA. The PTA was of the view that suicides were on the rise due to this game, and the Lahore police report was also cited. The PTA also referred to some of the religious issues in the game and banned them on that basis. However, the Islamabad High Court had expressed distrust in the PTA report and said that the facts were not being disclosed by the PTA.

The court further directed that the decision should not be taken without hearing the petitioner and the concerned party and they should be heard first. Meanwhile, a hearing was held at the PTA on July 9 when I appeared before the pub G players and other concerned parties, but the parties were not satisfied with the PTA’s actions.

Earlier, the PTA had announced a July 9 hearing and banned PubG. It was stated in the decision that in the light of the direction of the Lahore High Court, after a detailed hearing on July 9, the PTA decided to ban PubG.

The PTA said that other interested parties also attended the hearing but the PubG management did not co-operate. PubG management was asked about the number of users in Sessions, Pakistan.
